Polio additional booster vaccination campaign

Following the detection of poliovirus in sewage samples from Beckton (which covers north and east London) in 2022, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has recommended an urgent inactivated polio vaccine booster campaign for all children aged one to nine in London.

All children aged one to nine in London will be offered a dose of polio vaccine starting in August 2022, except for those who have received their pre-school booster in the past 12 months. For some children, this will be a catch-up dose; for those who are already up-to-date with the routine schedule it will be an additional dose.

The vaccine will be delivered through GP practices and other local providers who are being asked to contact parents and carers when they are ready for them to come forward.
